Further Comparisons For My Evaluation

George ezra comparison (Listen to the Man):

both have artist included in narrative? follow artist - hand held - I follow imogen.
both include lip syncing (lots of very good!!) and guitar
His videos more performance based mine more narrative based.
pans - which I try but dont really work :s
He has a break from song - just talking explains whats happening in the video more.
I use fades - not very common

Jake Bugg (Lightning Bolt):

blurry
hand hand very wobbly!
cuts of him singing and playing guitar
cuts are quite fast - mine are slower, show more narrative.

Black and white seems quite common - I used colour.
Also tend to follow the artist mostly - I follow the partner, only really charlie when he's playing

Changes To Music Video

Things I need to change:

  • redo mirror scenes as they are shaky and doesn't look natural - imogen look at charlie.
  • make reference to the candles later on after "rain scenes" so the narrative makes sense? (not as important)
  • fix the chorus - still shot reverse shot?
  • have charlie singing so I can lip sync - more of him
  • more obvious change in different boyfriend - different setting?
  • get charlie to sing i just want my everything + why cant you just let him go  lying to yourself
  • need to do photos for polaroid scenes
  • film Imogen walking away from charlie - all the rest of that sang?

Final Digipak

This i the second draft of my digipak:

I have changed one of the panels that had a photo of a guitar on it. I did this because I was advised it looked a bit too similar and it would probably look more effective to have a different image there to make it more interesting and eye-catching. It is the same image I used for my magazine advert as it is an eye-catching image and still puts emphasis on the guitar. However, I'm not sure if it looks as effective in black and white.

Final Magazine Advert

This is the new draft of my magazine advert.

I much prefer this draft as the image is a lot better than before. I was advised my old image looked quite flat and it might be better to have him playing the guitar. I also like this image as the background is out of focus and the guitar is in focus which still puts emphasis on the guitar as important to his music and makes the image more eye catching and interesting. I also think the white font looks better as it stands out a lot more. I have also added a drop shadow to make it bolder.

Editing Progress

These are a few screen shots of the editing I have done so far. For the first parts of my video I have quite a lot of footage edited and filmed which now I just need feedback on. Although there are a few gaps I need to fill in with footage which means I will have to have another day of fiming to try and fill in all the gaps now. I have pretty much done the chorus and the shot shown below I really like which fades to black and I think looks really effective.

This picture shows that I have completed the opening of my video. The first 20 seconds or so are just the music playing so I have used a few different shots of charlie playing the guitar which I have edited together and I think make a good opening.

After this small bit it goes straight into the narrative of the video where the lyrics are depicted through whats being shown.

Progress

I have filmed quite a lot of footage now and altogether have about 1.30 minutes of editing and footage done. I have found the process quite easy so far, however I haven't tried to lip sync the singing in the footage to the song yet which I think will be challenging. I have changed lots of footage round, putting it in different places etc. I think I have quite a few things I need to re-film as now I have become more comfortable with filming I can see where I can improve on my first attempts at filming. I also think I could more creative with my editing as I have included a fade to black but thats the only transition I have done.

Filming and Editing Update

From the last time I filmed I have been editing the footage but it is taking me longer than I thought it would, I have been matching the clips I have taken to fit in with the song. I've been editing the length of the footage and seeing what I need to refilm due to poor quality or not having enough good footage to match the timing of the song. I have also come to realise, since adding the song to the editing process, that there is quite a long  musical introduction to the song before any singing which I hadn't planned footage for. I have decied that here I am going to put footage of my artist playing the guitar outside somewhere, for example a wood, as from filming outside last weekend I have discovered it looks quite good. This also means I probably won't use the green screen, I think it will be a better idea to just have the footage that matches the lyrics playing with nothing over the top.

Second Draft of Digipak

This is the second draft of my digipak I have done. I have made the changes that were suggested to me before and I think the cd design looks better now and fits in with the rest of the design. Along with this I have changed the back cover which is now black and white. The font is also bolder so the text stands out and I have added the side panel in as I forgot this before.

First Day of Filming

Today I filmed using the green screen. I filmed the whole song through quite a few times using different angles so I have a few different shots to choose from, in case I don't like any I have backups.  This was a good start to my filming I think, now this weekend I am going to film some more using locations around my house so I will have soem footage to edit over the next week.

Draft of Magazine Advert (2)

This photo matches the one I am using in the digipak and clearly represents the artist so he is recognisable for the audience. The text is also the same and is bold so it is clear for the audience to see. I might need to change the layout of the text and possibly do some more editing on the photo.

Cast List

Charlie Redman - as the singer and also acting out scenes. Quite a personal song and video to the artist.

Imogen Quinn - as the ex girlfriend.

Elliot Jackson - as new boyfriend.

Storyboard Feedback

I am able to explain what I want my video to look like and I have got it all down on my storyboard. Therefore, from the discussion I've had today, it has been decided it would be a good idea for me to start filming as I am worried about the filming and editing process so the further ahead I get the better it will be for me because I can get the footage and editing right and I will have time to re film things if I need to.

First Draft of Digipak

From this first draft I now know that I need to add and change a few things before it will be done. I need to add an image to the back of the cd, I had an idea to make it the circle part of the guitar so the graphics match. I also need to make the font on the front cover bolder and possibly add some colour or make the back cover black and white so it all matches.

Photos for Digipak

These are the photos I have edited to use in my digipak. Some changes have been made; first of all the name of the album has changed to child due to the request from the artist therefore the font has changed to suit this more. All I need to do now is put them into the digipak template and possibly do some more editing which I will do tomorrow.

Digipak Developments

So far for my digipak I've done a CD design and the back cover. I need to get the final photos for the rest of the didipak and add them in. I will probably add photos or colour to both of these as well to make them look a bot more interesting.

I've kept the font the same throughout the digipak and the magazine advert as I think this is the most fitting for the style of music and it looks good. I got all the information at the bottom of the digipak backcover from a real digipak so I presume what I have included is correct.

Props

A list of the things I will need to have to film the different scenes of my music video:
  • green screen
  • guitar
  • camera/photographs
  • mirror
  • table and letters
  • phone
  • candles
It will be best to have these prepared before I start filming so I am organised and can get filming done more efficently.
